BAMBI Magazine Cover / Bangkok Portrait Photographer

BAMBI stands for Bangkok Mothers and Babies International.  The magazine is one of the most highly read magazines for English speaking parents of small children in Thailand.  The organization itself is like nothing else.  Soon after arriving in Bangkok, having barely recovered from the dizzying traffic, noise and pollution, I found this vital and thoroughly well-organized network of parents, babies, and children.  Through BAMBI playgroups could be found on any day in any area of the city.  Big social events, fundraisers, service projects and educational events are thriving in Bangkok for the benefit and because of the English-speaking members of this incredible organization.  Bumps & Babies, an off-shoot of BAMBI is also a great resource for parents who are pregnant and looking at their options for birth in Bangkok.

For those who have lived a life of being an expat in multiple Asian cities, Bangkok of all places is known as a respite.  The reason for this is the networking among expats in Bangkok is unparalleled, much because of the work of BAMBI.  It brings people together; it brings new parents together.  I remember feeling lonely a lot during the time of my son’s early years, having just moved to a new city.  If only I had something like BAMBI then I might have felt differently.  Max, my son was four when I found BAMBI.  He was still young enough to be involved.

I started photographing for the magazine then (2003).  Here is the latest BAMBI cover (well, January, close!).  I plan to revisit old covers periodically as I blog.

I love this shot. What a darling, poetic capture.
